How to tell a journey? Words are not enough, they are not the proper tool. To tell a journey, we need to bring the audience aboard. And in this journey the wind, the waves, the ropes and the sails recorded along many miles of sailing are the vocaboulary of the narration. From the storming sea to the golden dawn of a calm morning, the trumpet improvise on the melody of the wind and electronics create a shape new world of sound around jazz, ambient and contemporary music , while the eyes dive into the colors projected alla round. To sail, listen and react; act to save the balance with the sea, with Nature. To propose, express but with open ears to receive the tale of the waves and improvise the best story. We don’t know in advance how to adjust the sails or if we’ll make to the destination, but the route is our story on the sea and in music.
Aquatic Theater is an act in seven portraits, performed live in an actual theater to share the experience of a sailing journey. All the soundscape was recorded aboard and tweaked live as happened during the research on the sailboat of Onde Sonore. We experimented to play with the Sea giving a musical voice to the waves and the wind in terms of translation into a more intelligible language.
